Cosmic Splat FAQ
Because we don’t just host paint parties—we launch creative missions, and there is absolutely nothing else like us in Colorado!
Cosmic Splat is an immersive, high-energy experience featuring UV-reactive neon paint, upbeat music, and a process-over-perfection philosophy. Whether you’re engineering a nebula or throwing a galaxy of splatter, it’s all about the thrill of the glow.
We bring Colorado's only experience of this kind right to your launchpad. With our ADA-accessible mobile studio, we provide all the supplies and handle 100% of the cleanup, so you can focus on making memories (and a little mess). It’s perfect for birthdays, block parties, holiday parties, school groups, day camps, on-site activities for care facilities, fundraisers, corporate events, or anyone who wants to try something totally out of this world.
It all depends on the kind of energy you want to bring to the studio! Here is the vibe check for each:
Immersive Splatter Paint: High-energy, messy, and pure fun. This experience is all about letting go, moving around, and splatting paint. It's energetic, active, and perfect if you want to shake off some stress, laugh out loud, and create something completely spontaneous. Think action painting where the process of making it is just as fun as the final product.
Acrylic Pour: Chill, hypnotic, and satisfying. If you want a more relaxed, conversational vibe, this is the one. You will mix colors, watch them flow, and use motion to guide the paint across the canvas. It feels almost therapeutic as you watch the cells and patterns form. It is less about physical action and more about the mesmerizing chemistry of the paint.
Age Guidelines: Our signature Immersive Splatter Paint Experience is great for all ages. Due to the focus, coordination, and techniques required for Acrylic Pouring, we recommend this experience for ages 12 and up.
We’re fully mobile! Cosmic Splat is based in Thornton, Colorado, bringing our glow-in-the-dark paint studio directly to locations across the Denver Metro area.
Instead of a traditional storefront, we bring our immersive paint shuttle to:
🎈 Private Residential Events (birthdays, block parties, graduations, holiday parties, and family celebrations)
🎒 Schools, Camps & Youth Programs
🏢 Corporate Offices & Businesses
🏡 Residential Care Facilities & Private Venues
Want to experience the bus? The community is always invited to visit us at one of our Community Pop-Up Events, held at public stops across the entire Front Range!
It depends on your location! We’d love to bring the Cosmic Splat bus to your neighborhood for birthdays, holiday bashes, block parties, and graduation celebrations.
However, before we can approve a residential booking, we need to verify two important details:
1) Local Municipal & HOA Rules: City codes, street-parking ordinances, and HOA rules for commercial vehicles vary widely across different neighborhoods. We must review your exact address first to ensure a mobile studio is permitted to operate at your spot.
2) Space & Safety Clearance: Our 26-foot studio requires a flat, paved space (at least 35' L × 15' W × 12' H) with room for guest entry, our ADA lift, and access to a standard 110V outlet if your event runs over 2 hours. (Check out our full Parking & Setup Requirements for complete site specs!)
Submit your event details and exact address through our contact form, and we’ll review local parking rules and site clearance to see if we can bring the party to you!
If your location isn't a fit, we’d love to see you at one of our Community Pop-Up Events!
We’ve designed our mobile studio for a smooth, high-energy rotation that keeps the creativity flowing! Our shuttle can accommodate up to 10 painters per session.
Here's what a typical 30-Minute Cosmic Splat Session looks like for groups with over 10 painters.
Immersive Splatter Paint Experience (All Ages)
Step 1: Preparing for Take-off (5 minutes) The group gathers at our outdoor Suit Up Station to prepare for their mission. Our crew provides protective wear before painters grab a caddy to customize their kit at our Gear Up Station. Each artist chooses their own Splat Tools from our selection of paint brushes, toothbrushes, and foam paint sponges as well as the colors they will be using. The Paint Palette - Every painter is equipped with: (3) cups, each containing 2-3 ounces of paint in the colors of their choice (1) 0.5 ounce dropper bottle of paint in the color of their choice Artists can select from a wide variety of colors, including vibrant neons, a rainbow of standard colors, black, white, and even shimmering metallics.
Last, they receive a 9x12 canvas board, which has a sticker on the back to record the artist's name and date, ensuring every masterpiece finds its way home.
Step 2: Inside the Shuttle (20 minutes) On board the shuttle, each artist gets their own dedicated Creation Station. They’ll have 20 minutes to engineer their glowing masterpiece in our climate-controlled, UV-lit studio.
Step 3: Touchdown & Decontamination (5 minutes) When the mission clock hits zero, painters will initiate their glow-down sequence before disembarking the shuttle.
Atmospheric Re-Entry: Painters place their canvases inside a transport box to ensure wet paint stays contained. Paint tools and cups are left inside of the caddies at the painter's Creation Station. Painters exit the shuttle with just their boxed paintings, leaving the mess behind.
System Reset: The only thing the artists need to clean up is themselves! We provide plenty of paper towels and wipes outside in the Clean Up Zone.
After disembarking, the new Artistronauts pose for a group photo before de-suiting, while the next crew of 10 painters is already geared up and ready to board. Every painter receives an Artistonaut badge to commemorate their voyage.
Acrylic Pour Experience (Ages 12 and up)
Step 1: Preparing for Take-off (5 minutes)
The group gathers at our outdoor Suit Up Station to prepare for their mission. Our crew provides protective wear before painters grab a caddy to customize their kit at our Gear Up Station.
Each artist selects up to 4 colors and is equipped with:
A Nebula Kit: (4) paint cups, (4) stir sticks, (1) dedicated pour cup or funnel, (4) canvas risers, a spill mat, and a name/date sticker for the back of their canvas, which should be filled out and applied before boarding.
A Canvas: 6x6 stretched canvas
The Rocket Fuel: Painters combine our specialized fluid medium with their selected colors to ensure a perfect, gravity-defying flow.
A Take-home Kit: We send you home with a display easel for your canvas, plus a clear top coat and paintbrush to apply a protective sheen once your masterpiece is fully dry. Every painter receives an Artistonaut badge to commemorate their voyage.
Step 2: Inside the Shuttle (20 minutes)
On board the shuttle, each artist sets up at their own dedicated Creation Station. They’ll have 20 minutes to stir their paints and engineer their glowing masterpiece in our climate-controlled, UV-lit studio.
The Fusion: Painters layer their colors into their pour cup or funnel then apply them to their canvas using their choice of fluid art techniques.
The Atmosphere: Painters pour, tilt, swirl, and rock their canvas, directing the flow of colors to create a unique design.
Step 3: Touchdown & Decontamination (5 minutes)
When the mission clock hits zero, painters will initiate their glow-down sequence before disembarking the shuttle.
The Masterpiece: Because acrylic pours can take 24-48 hours to dry, painters place their finished canvas carefully inside a Level-Transport Box with the canvas risers resting on sticky pads. This helps to prevent designs from shifting.
System Reset: The only thing the artists need to clean up is themselves! We provide plenty of paper towels and wipes for tidying up.
Atmospheric Re-Entry: Painters exit the shuttle with their boxed paintings, leaving the mess to us!
After disembarking, the new Artistronauts pose for a group photo before de-suiting, while the incoming crew of 10 painters is already geared up and ready to board.
Small Groups (10 or fewer)
Our on-site field trips, corporate events, and fundraisers are scheduled in one-hour increments and can accommodate up to 30 painters per hour. If you have a small group, you are welcome to use that full hour to dive deeper into your art.
Many of our small-group painters choose to create extra masterpieces, experiment with different acrylic pour techniques, or mix their own color combos since there's no rush to swap shifts.
Not at all! While our sessions are designed to keep large groups moving efficiently, smaller groups have more flexibility.
Our reserved packages are scheduled in one-hour increments and can accommodate up to 30 painters per hour. If you have a smaller group, you are welcome to use that full hour to dive deeper into your art.

To ensure everyone gets the absolute best experience, we can only host one type of experience per session.
Because our Immersive Splatter Paint Experience involves a lot of high-energy movement and flying paint, and Acrylic Pouring requires a calm, level surface for the paint to dry beautifully, mixing the two at the same time doesn't work well.
If your group is split on what they want to try, we highly recommend booking back-to-back sessions! That way, everyone gets to create exactly what they want, and you all get to cheer each other on.
Absolutely! We want everyone to enjoy the splat! Because our bus is a private, controlled environment, we can easily adjust the volume of the music or the intensity of the UV lighting to accommodate guests with light or sound sensitivities. Please let us know about any specific needs when booking so we can tailor the environment for your group.
Absolutely! In fact, Cosmic Splat was built specifically for you. Our studio isn't about perfect brushstrokes or years of training - it’s about the thrill of creation and the joy of getting a little messy.
Here's why you’ll love it even if you can’t draw a stick figure:
Process Over Perfection: Whether you're trying out our high-energy immersive splatter paint experience or opting for the hypnotic acrylic pour experience, the physics of the paint does most of the work for you. You provide the energy; the paint provides the magic!
The "No Mistakes" Zone: In fluid art and splatter painting, there are no wrong moves. Every drip, splash, and pour creates a one-of-a-kind pattern that looks super cool the moment it hits your canvas.
Guided Adventure: Our crew is right there with you to help with the technical stuff. We're also happy to provide pre-mission tips, so you can focus on having fun.
Total Creative Freedom: This is a high-energy, low-pressure environment. There’s no right way to make art here, just your way!
Most of our guests walk in saying 'I'm not creative' and walk out as certified Artistronauts, carrying a vibrant masterpiece they are genuinely proud to show off.
Absolutely! Think of Cosmic Splat as your ultimate creative recess. While your home studio might be for precise, professional-grade work, our mobile studio is designed for high-energy experimentation and raw, kinetic fun.
Here's why artists love visiting us:
A Massive Palette of Possibility: We are fully stocked with a rainbow of student-grade paints in over 40 different colors. This allows you to play with pours and splatters without the preciousness or high cost of professional-grade paints you might typically use.
Specialty Wildcard Pigments: Even the most stocked home studios don't always have a full suite of high-voltage fluorescents, shimmering metallics, and iridescent color-shift paints. We give you a chance to experiment with these specialty finishes in a UV-reactive environment.
Master the Motion Methods: If you’ve been wanting to try your hand at fluid art techniques like The Dirty Pour, The Flip Cup, or The Ribbon Pour we provide the perfect space to do it. We handle the setup and the cleanup, so you can focus entirely on the fluid dynamics.
Break the Creative Block: Working under blacklights with neon-intensity colors is a fantastic way to reset your brain. It’s a sensory-rich experience that pushes you to think about light and contrast in a totally new way.
While we love a good vibe, Cosmic Splat is a high-energy mobile art studio. Due to licensing and insurance restrictions, we don’t serve or allow alcohol inside the shuttle.
That’s why we love our community pop-up events! We specifically partner with local breweries, restaurants, and markets so you can grab a drink or a bite to eat before or after your session. It’s the best of both worlds!
To keep our our painters safe and our studio inspiring, Cosmic Splat is not a splatter room. Our space is optimized for controlled splattering and fluid art techniques.
By keeping the paint on the canvas and off each other, we can provide a neon experience that works perfectly for all ages in a unique mobile environment.
We believe great art starts with great materials! All of our tempera and acrylic paints are student-grade, water-based, and non-toxic. We are proud to source our paints exclusively from U.S.A. manufacturers, ensuring a safe, high-quality experience for artists of all ages.
To achieve our signature Cosmic Flow and high-voltage splatters, we hand-mix our paints with a custom-blended, non-toxic pouring medium. This archival-safe mixture uses purified water and a specialized adhesive base to ensure your masterpiece stays vibrant and flexible long after it leaves the shuttle.
For our signature Immersive Splatter Paint Experience, we’ve curated the ultimate cosmic palette for you! You’ll have access to high-intensity fluorescent colors that pop under the blacklights, along with all of the classic colors of the rainbow, black, white, and even some shimmering metallics.
To make the process even more exciting, we offer these paints in traditional cups, as well as dropper bottles - giving you more ways to deliver blasts of color to your canvas!
Our studio is stocked with over a dozen vibrant options for the Acrylic Pour Experience. In addition to neons, we also carry a rainbow of standard colors, shimmering metallics, and eye-catching iridescents to craft a truly unique, one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
We provide all the paint you need to create a vibrant, fully-covered masterpiece! Here's how it breaks down by experience:
Immersive Splatter Paint Experience: Each painter receives a curated Splat Kit designed for maximum coverage and variety:
(3) cups, each containing 2-3 ounces of paint in the colors of your choice
(1) 0.5 ounce dropper bottle of paint in the color of your choice
Acrylic Pour Experience: Each painter receives a pre-assembled Flight Tray that includes 4 cups of paint in the colors of your choice, providing approximately 3 ounces of acrylic paint mixed with our specialty flow medium. This is the perfect volume to fully coat your 6x6 canvas from edge to edge as well as cover the sides.
Great question! Our specialty paints are fluorescent, which means they're designed to glow under UV (blacklight) conditions. While they don't glow on their own in a pitch-black room, they come to life with incredible, neon intensity the moment a blacklight hits the canvas.
Want to keep the glow going? We offer mini UV flashlights for $6+tax. They are the perfect way to show off your neon masterpiece at home! You can add them to your booked package ahead of time or purchase them from a crew member at our Gear Up Station on the day of your event. Please note, Cosmic Splat is a cashless studio. We accept all major credit cards and mobile tap-to-pay options.
Our water-based paint will wash off skin and hair with soap and water. We do not have a sink onboard, so we provide our artists with gloves before they enter the shuttle and start painting. Wipes and paper towels are provided after the mission is complete.
Not at all! While we love a cosmic glow, others might be drawn to a different aesthetic.
Immersive Splatter Paint Experience: In addition to our neon lineup, we offer all of the classic colors of the rainbow, black, white, and several metallics to add contrast and shimmer to your piece.
Acrylic Pour Experience: Beyond a full rainbow of colors, you can also choose from shimmering metallics, eye-catching iridescents, and high-voltage fluorescents to craft a truly unique, one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
We chose the 6" x 6" mini-masterpiece size specifically to ensure you have the best possible experience in our mobile studio. Here's why we love these FUN SIZE CANVASES so much:
Perfect for Acrylic Pouring: Acrylic pouring is a fluid art form that requires precise control. A 6-inch canvas is much easier to manage, tilt, and maneuver within the cozy, creative environment of our shuttle.
Faster Dry Time: Larger canvases are significantly harder to keep level during transport. A smaller surface area ensures your design stays put and doesn't shift or slide off the edges when you leave the Nova Lab. With a 6x6 canvas, your art can go home with you immediately.
Ready to Display Anywhere: Because of their compact size and handy easel, these canvases fit perfectly on a bookshelf or mantel, on a desk, or a even on a kitchen countertop. You don't have to worry about finding a big, empty wall if you want to display your artwork.
The Ultimate Gift: These canvases are a fantastic size for gifting! They feel like a custom-made treasure and you could easily drop one in the mail.
Zero Pressure: The 6" x 6" size removes the obligation of hanging it on a wall. It’s a low-pressure way to create high-impact art that fits naturally into any room of your home.
Because we use fluid art techniques, your masterpiece will stay wet for several hours or even a day or 2 after your session.
After you wrap up your mission inside the Cosmic Splat shuttle, we will provide you with a box to keep your art safe and the wet paint contained.
At-Home Curing: Once you get home, simply find a flat, dust-free surface (like a countertop or shelf) and let the painting sit undisturbed in its box.
Splatter Paintings are usually dry in 2–4 hours.
Acrylic Pours are thicker and require a full 24–48 hours to cure completely before they are ready to removed from their box. It is important to keep them as level as possible so your design does not shift.
When your acrylic pour painting is dry, remove the risers by detaching them from the sticky pads then gently twisting the jumbo thumbtacks back and forth while slowly pulling them out.
Inside the Nova Lab at Cosmic Splat, the soundtrack is just as vibrant as the paint! We curate our playlists to keep the energy high and the creativity flowing. Here’s what you can expect to hear:
For All Ages: We spin high-energy, club-mix versions of popular hits from every decade. Think of your favorite chart-toppers from the 70s to today, reimagined with a beat that makes you want to move while you paint.
Family-Friendly & Clean: All of our music is carefully selected to be age-appropriate for our youngest painters while still being fun for the adults.
For the Little Ones: When the mini-artists take over, we lean into high-tempo, fun-filled favorites performed by artists like Lenny Pearce and Crazy Frog. They're guaranteed to get them dancing while they design!
Have a specific vibe in mind for your event? Let us know when you book your package and we can tailor a playlist to match your group!
Think Dress for Mess! While we provide head-to-toe protective gear, the best way to enjoy Cosmic Splat is to wear clothes you aren't afraid to get a little extra color on. Here's our guide to the perfect painting outfit:
Although our paint is water-based, it can result in permanent stains on fabrics and other surfaces.
Splatter Paint vs. Acrylic: Our splatter paint is made with water-based tempera, which washes out more easily, even after it has dried. Our water-based acrylic paint can be usually be washed off of fabrics while it is wet, but it is very unlikely to wash off once it is dry.
The Basics: We recommend comfortable, older clothing and shoes. Even with our best efforts, paint is an adventurous medium and can sometimes find its way onto your favorite sneakers or jeans.
Skip the Bulk: Clothes that are slim-fitting and not bulky work best under our protective gear. Big hoodies or baggy sleeves can get in the way of your masterpiece!
Avoid the Fancy Stuff: Please leave the designer labels, delicate fabrics, and upscale handbags at home. It's probably also a good idea to skip the jewelry.
What We Provide: Every painter is given the opportunity to suit up in protective gear. We carry shower caps, safety glasses, face shields, smocks, gloves, and shoe protection.
A Note on Sleeves: If you're participating in an Acrylic Pour Experience, we recommend short sleeves or tops with sleeves that can be easily rolled up to keep your forearms clear of the canvas.
Footwear: We suggest closed-toe, flat shoes for safety and stability inside the shuttle.
To ensure you have the best possible experience, Cosmic Splat’s studio is designed for painters to be standing or seated in their own mobility devices. We engineered our shuttle this way for three mission-critical reasons: Freedom of Movement: Splatter painting and acrylic pouring are active art forms. Being able to move around your canvas, reach for different colors, and use your full range of motion for those perfect splats and tilts results in much better outcomes.
Optimized Studio Space: By removing fixed seating, we’ve created a more spacious environment where multiple Artistronauts can create comfortably without feeling cramped. This open-deck layout allows for a better flow of creativity.
Universal Accessibility & Safety: Our shuttle is designed with a one-Level philosophy. By keeping the floor clear of loose chairs, we ensure a safer, trip-free environment for everyone and provide ample, unobstructed clearance for our friends using wheelchairs or other mobility aids. This ensures that every member of the crew has a front-row seat to the glow, regardless of how they navigate the galaxy!
To maximize space in our studio and ensure a focused environment, the Cosmic Splat shuttle does not have a restroom or running water onboard.
We’ve engineered a Waterless Clean-Up Protocol to make your transition back to Earth a breeze:
Precision Mission Control: Unlike a splatter room, Cosmic Splat's studio is designed for controlled creativity, with the goal being more paint on the canvas than there is on you and your fellow crew members.
The Mission Suit: We provide head-to-toe protective gear and gloves for every painter to keep your civilian clothes tidy.
Clean Up Zone: After your mission is complete, step outside the shuttle to visit our Clean Up Zone. We provide paper towels and wipes for a quick refresh after your session.
We’ve designed our mobile studio to feel spacious and inspiring! We typically host a maximum of 10 painters at a time to ensure everyone has plenty of room. If your group includes creators using wheelchairs, we simply adjust the layout for better maneuverability, which may slightly reduce the total number of painters per session.
Our shuttle is a rolling laboratory where science meets self-expression. For students under 12, our Immersive Splatter Paint Experience focuses on three core pillars:
Kinetic Energy & Fluid Dynamics
By using brushes, spray bottles, and droppers, students see firsthand how force, gravity, and distance change the way paint hits a canvas.
Light Science & Fine Motor Engineering
Students explore the physics of light by observing how fluorescent pigments react to UV blacklights, while practicing precision control over different delivery tools to create their masterpieces.
Creative Logic & Choice-Effect
Beyond the physics, our studio is a space for Imaginary Play and Problem Solving. Every artistic choice, from the angle of a splatter to the layering of paints, is a real-time lesson in cause and effect.
We encourage Artistronauts to treat the canvas as a simulated environment where they can experiment with different outcomes, teaching them that mistakes are just data points in the creative process. It’s a hands-on way to show that in art, as in life, our choices shape our results!
Yes! We want you to stay focused on your masterpiece, not the weather. Cosmic Splat keeps its artistronauts comfortable year-round, with air conditioning and heat onboard.
